Astra Film Factory was founded by the first Hungarian female producer (1917)
The first significant female figure in Hungarian film production, Margit Kornai (Kronemer) was born on 28 February 1883 into a Jewish family.
By the end of the 1910’s, she became a well-known and successful producer. In 1917, Kornai organised Astra Film Factory and Film Rental Company, which produced and distributed films.
Her peers and the trade press praised her excellent choices of scripts and actors, as well as the way she managed and developed the Astra Film Factory technically and infrastructurally.
In the course of her career, she was involved in more than sixty silent and sound films.
Nearly 90 years later, the legendary studio has been revived. Astra Filmland started operations in 2009. In the spirit of its predecessor, the studio complex is intensely developing its capacity and technology.
